Meet the Team

Medical Education

Townhead Medical Practice has an active interest in medical education. We are involved in the teaching of qualified doctors who wish to become general practitioners, undergraduate medical students training to becoming doctors, and student nurses.

They may spend time with our Doctors, Practice Nurses, District Nurses, and Health Visiting teams.

Doctors who wish to become General Practitioners have to undertake 18 months training in an approved practice in addition to their hospital posts.

Senior medical students from the University of Dundee, and occasionally other medical schools, gain valuable experience of General Practice at Townhead.

Doctors who wish to become General Practitioners have to undertake 18 months training in an approved practice in addition to their hospital posts.

Teaching consultation skills is an important part of training in General Practice. Video consultations are a useful part of this process. You will always be asked for your consent before these consultations, and particular care is taken with regard to confidentiality.

We are very grateful for your help, but if you wish to see the doctor alone, please do say at the start of your appointment.

Receptionists provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries.

They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses.

They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with financial claims, dealing with patient records and carrying out searches and practice audits.
