Triage System for Urgent Appointments

Posted on:

Due to changes within our team, along with local and national recruitment challenges, Townhead Practice are changing the way we deal with on the day appointments from Monday 3rd June 2024.

We know that our patients appreciate the face-to-face appointments we offer, and these changes are designed to maintain this access to face-to-face support for routine and scheduled appointments.

Demand for appointments is very high. To manage this demand, we are introducing a triage system for urgent appointments, whilst also opening up more appointments that can be booked in advance.

These advance appointments will continue to be offered either telephone or face to face, as requested. This means that if you can wait to see a GP, you will be offered an appointment in the future.

If your need cannot wait then you will be offered an on-the-day telephone call from one of our Triage Team (see below for more information) who will decide how best to meet your needs. If an on-the-day, face-to-face appointment is deemed necessary, this will then be offered.

The wellbeing of both our patients and staff is of paramount importance to us. We would appreciate your cooperation as we implement these changes. If you would like to share any feedback with us, please email us at: [email protected].

Triage Team

The use of triage for our on-the-day appointments allows us to ensure that those with the most urgent need can be prioritised. Going forward, this will be done over the telephone by the triage team. They will be able to ensure you receive care from the most appropriate person, which may include professionals from outside of the practice e.g. optician, pharmacist, physiotherapist.

The triage team is led by our duty doctor, our Senior Practice Nurse and our Advanced Paramedic, supported by Urgent and Unscheduled Care nurses provided by NHS Tayside.
